Case Study: Johnsons Aggregates and Recycling
FIND OUT HOW WE HELPED OUR CLIENT INCREASE THEIR PRODUCTION OUTPUT BY 10%
Johnsons Aggregates & Recycling are focused on the supply of quarried/recycled aggregates, site clearance, contract crushing, and disposal of contaminated materials.
As the Energy from Waste industry developed, they recognised the potential for Incinerator Bottom Ash (“IBA”) to be carefully blended with aggregate to provide a more sustainable, lower cost, and higher quality product.
They developed their own unique plant in 2007 and have operated this carefully ever since. The valuable knowledge and experience gained from the initial plant has been used, (alongside knowledge gained from around the World) to develop what is widely considered as the most advanced IBA recycling facility in Europe.
WHAT WAS THE ISSUE?
The business needed to consistently increase its labour workforce by 20% in a short period of time.
In summary, reliability and quality of staff were the main issues. Inconsistent staffing levels left work being incomplete and a strain on other members of staff, a remote location provided an added difficulty but was unavoidable due to the nature of the site.
WHAT WAS THE IMPACT OF NOT FIXING THE ISSUE?
Workload has rapidly increased for our site in a short amount of time, not having the correct amount of quality personnel would lead to us not reaching our full capacity. This would ultimately lead to a large backlog in our raw material, and a potential loss of revenue for the company.
HOW DID WE HELP SOLVE IT?
We met with the team to discuss the challenges involved, Discovery is a key stage in our Proven Process.
Together we proceeded with a very transparent brief to fill the jobs we can when we can – all the while maintaining clear and consistent levels of communication.
We set to work immediately by making the most of our 30+-year-old database of local talent, combined with our modern methods of recruitment.
WHAT DID THEY HAVE TO SAY?
Marcus Hawes, Site Manager at Johnsons Aggregates & Recycling said:
‘We had previous dealings and you came out to visit and let us know you were waiting in the wings if required.
You understood the requirements instantly and ensured the personnel that arrived on site were aware of what would be expected of them. In addition, you quickly apprehend the situation and provide the correct personnel in the required timescales.
We have been able to up production output by circa 10% so far, with more capability ready to be introduced in the near future.
If I had to describe you in three words it would be: Rapid, Responsive and Attentive.’
Andy Lynch, Business Development Consultant at Thorn Baker Industrial Recruitment said:
‘For us, solving our clients’ issues and being able to help someone into long term work is always a win.
It was vitally important that we delivered the numbers required to ensure the site was fully staffed. It was enjoyable to delve into the world of Waste & Recycling candidates and present the opportunity to them.
The roles were varied and offered a fantastic path forward onto bigger and better things. It was clear that once all the information was presented, this was an opportunity not to be missed.’
