Our client is a leader Food Production company based in Leicester and due to expansion, they are looking for a Specification Technologist to join their existing team.


Job Purpose
As Specification Technologist, your key focus will be to ensure that all customer specifications, pack copies and artwork are accurately set up and that all the necessary customer documentation is produced to meet critical path timescales and launch deadlines.

You will be responsible for reviewing copy artwork to ensure that the pack information is accurate and also in line with customer technical labelling policies, so you’ll understand the importance of getting things right first time.

The ideal candidate should be an excellent communicator and have the ability to influence across all departments & levels to build and develop effective relationships. Be proficient in the use of MS office tools, written, numerical and verbal skills. Experience in the use of Retailer web based portals and an understanding of Food Safety and Quality Management Systems would be preferred.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • HND or BSc or MSc in food related discipline such as Food Science or similar science discipline would be desirable
  • Minimum educated to a good standard of education with GCSE’s grades A – C in both English and Maths; relevant A levels – essential
  • Level 2 HACCP and Food Safety Certificates
  • Internal Auditor qualification – desirable
  • Recent experiences of using customer web based portal specification systems – essential

Experience

  • You will have experience of working within a similar role within food manufacturing and have knowledge of writing specifications for retailers
  • Experience in a food manufacturing environment, ideally factory based.
  • Experience within food industry preferred, or food environment desirable
  • Minimum of 1 year in a similar role
  • Experience of working in a customer focussed environment
  • A proven track record of effective use of customer specification systems

Knowledge

  • Completing finished product specifications using customer specific formats
  • Reviewing and adding information to electronic / internet-based customer technical platforms
  • Maintaining and updating customer technical information and questionnaires
  • Reviewing and approving raw material specifications ensuring they are risk assessed from a Food Safety perspective.
  • Managing the supplier database to ensure all suppliers are checked and approved
  • Ensuring finished product specifications are reviewed and updated as required
  • Other duties as required for example handling complaints and internal auditing.

Skills

  • You’ll have the talent to analyse information alongside the ability to transfer the data accurately and clearly within reports
  • You will feel comfortable managing multiple tasks and delivering results against tight deadlines.
  • An understanding and practical working experience of HACCP.
  • Coordination of supplier Approvals and Raw Material Risk Assessments as well as TACCP/VACCP
  • A working knowledge of related food labelling legislation.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and interact with all levels of personnel.
  • High level of organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • High levels of computer literacy.
